Zamana.kz: The level of proficiency in the Kazakh language has decreased after arriving in Shymkent

Написано 12 Сентябрь, 2017 в категории Sports & Culture

Zamana.kz, in an article entitled “Шымкентке келіп, қазақшасы нашарлап кетіпті” – “The level of proficiency in the Kazakh language has decreased after arriving in Shymkent”, quoted Henryk Jankowski, a well-known Polish linguist, as saying: “I spent two months in Shymkent, which is considered as a most genuine Kazakh-speaking city of Kazakhstan. But somehow this has proved not to be the case. The following is an example: a group of people are talking in Kazakh, and a Russian-speaking person just shows up, and they all switch to Russian.
Kids in this yard, they all speak Russian. Russian is heard everywhere. It is really a problem to meet just letterings in Kazakh, let alone correctly written ones. Once I had a considerable knowledge of Kazakh. Now, it has begun to worsen. Moreover, I risk completely forgetting that range of the Kazakh language that I learned”.
