EurAsia Daily, in an article entitled “Ткачев: Белоруссия и Казахстан недобросовестно играют на рынке сахара” – “Tkachev: Belarussia and Kazakhstan are playing unfair in the sugar market”, said: “The Russian Minister of agriculture Alexander Tkachev made a series of statements for the mass media, with the potential to provoke a new “food war” with Belorussia — this time because of sugar.
First, while talking to a journalist from the Rossiya-24 television channel, Tkachev noted that the supply of cheap sugar from third countries to Russia through Belorussia and Kazakhstan has a negative impact on the Russian producer.
And then the minister unequivocally told Vedomosti, a Russian-language business daily published in Moscow, that “our partners’, Belorussia’s and Kazakhstan’s, unfair trade policies” have been putting serious downward pressure on domestic prices — in recent weeks, sugar prices have fallen from 44 to 26 rubles per kilogram. This is due to the fact that they “have been placing products by third countries on our market”.
